Study for the Spring Concert?

In case you missed it, D.R.A.M. and Cousin Stizz will be rounding out the academic year for Salem State University… quite literally. They’ll be treating us to a rockin’ spring concert on the last day of classes Wednesday, May 3 at 7:30PM in the Twohig Gym. We all may know D.R.A.M. from his hit song with Lil Yachty “Broccoli” that broke out near the beginning of this school year. We’ll be reminiscing on the end of last summer with the beginning of this one. We know he knows his vegetables… but what do we really know about him? Here are a few fun facts about each artist.

THE WHITE-WASHED MORNING

Twas a sleepy Sunday morning, and all through Salem State

As students awoke, they yelled, “This is great!”

What they were referring to was the sky

Flurried with snow

All the campuses were covered

There was nowhere to go

What every would the students do?

With the road conditions so bad

Do they binge on Netflix?

That Sunday was the best they’ve ever had

Maybe you didn’t have quite the snowy Sunday explained in the poem, however SSU did have its first “snowfall” here on Sunday. It didn’t stick, however snow flurries mixed with rain did make for quite a treacherous15280_full morning. Some brave souls (me) left their rooms solely for Bagel World. However, what can you do when it’s even too snowy to leave your dorm? Here’s some fun things to do when the New England weather acts up, thanks to an article form HerCampus.

1. Card and Board Games – Get your whole floor or pod involved! A game of Cards Against Humanity can change any bad day around.

2. Rearrange your furniture. – Instead of getting stir crazy, get organized! Is there something you’ve always wanted to do with your room but haven’t had the time? You have it now!

3.  Play around with makeup looks.

4. Start a new show on Netflix. – This one is the go-to. You could burn through a whole season in a day!

5. Play around with recipes.  – If you’re in a dorm and not a suite, try mug cakes, they come in hundreds of sizes, shapes, colors, and flavors.

6.  Clean up your social networks. – Something that you need to do but don’t always have to time for it. Take down any pictures with alcohol, drugs, or anything offensive. Make all of your profile pictures the same for every website, clean up and perfect your bios, and maybe even schedule some good content for your twitter!

7. Call someone your love. – It could be your grandmother, parents, significant other, or anyone you miss and want to catch up with!

5 Things To Do On Campus That Are Better Than Hiding in Your Room

The first week of school as a freshman can easily be the most terrifying and exciting time in your life. In one day you’ve gained a double life: one at home and one at school. Luckily for you, you’ve chosen a school that makes sure that no freshman is in distress in their new life here. The first few weeks of school are full of events from the beginning to the end of the day. If you’re not bored, you’re not missing home, right?

However, sometimes it’s still hard to mix and mingle. I’m here to remind you that there’s things that are still mores scary than social interaction, no matter how terrifying it does sound.

1. Laying on the quad

Yes, laying on your bed is the best thing after a long day, however there’s no chance of you getting a nice tan. Bring your roommate,a towel, and some sunglasses our to the Marsh quad and soak up the sun. Laying down in the open gives you a better chance of meeting some new friends to join your picnic party.

2. Hanging out in the lounge.

The lounges in your dorm are there for a reason! Bring some food, a good movie, and friends will flock. Who knows who you might have deep conversations about life with, or who will become your new best friend!

3. Going to an event!

You’ll get more freebies in college than you would if you won the lottery. Welcome week block parties, cookouts, and movie nights will keep you fed for a whole week between the school-served food and the donation from food trucks. This year there’s even free haircuts, yes, haircuts!

Usually if you want to see a singer or comedian you have to pay big bucks for a ticket. However SSU has them frequently for either free or at a steep discount.

5. Join a club or group.

Joining a club or group is like instant friends. If you join a group that centered around a major, hobby, or interest, you’re guaranteed to have a lot in common! Not only can joining a group make you cool friends, it can help you gain job and leadership skills.

Doesn’t that all sound a lot more fun than staring at the ceiling? If you do some of these things maybe you can find some friends to stare at that ceiling with you. Have a great first week at SSU, everyone!
