The Women’s Leadership Conference has been providing our campus with strong women and messages of empowerment for the past nine years. In its tenth year, the conference is bringing one of the most impactful and relevant women in our country today: Jasmine Rand.
Jasmine Rand is not only a professor, national legal analyst, international legal consultant, lecturer, columnist and civil rights leader, but she is also the founding attorney of RAND LAW, L.L.C. We are proud to announce that she will be the keynote speaker and panel moderator for the Women’s Leadership Conference: Women’s Impact. She’s represented the Trayvon Martin Family, and is excited to share her experiences with us.
Rand has also represented the Michael Brown family in Ferguson. According to her impressive resume, she excels in civil rights law. She is currently working on police brutality cases with the NYPD and the LAPD. Not only is she a star in the courtroom, but she is also a star in the classroom and the newsroom. She’s taught at Harvard University and is currently a visiting professor at the University of Miami School of Law. She also serves as a legal analyst to MSNBC, HLN, and international news networks.
She will share her experiences with us within the frame of how it affects her life as a woman. She’s clearly a very influential woman, so naturally she fits in with this year’s conference theme: “Women’s Impact“. Her impact has been in the realm of legal advocacy and social justice. The conference will pose the questions:
What will your impact be as a woman?
Who is a woman that has impacted you?
What do you believe is women’s impact on our world?
Over lunch, we will hear from several important female panelists from the disciplines of NGO’s, STEM, Business, and more.
How will the conference involve you? We are inviting you to express your definition of women’s impact in an art project that we are putting together there. Also, watch out for students canvassing around campus asking you to define women’s impact. Feel the urge to tell us your definition? Tweet @SSUECC with your definition and use the hashtag #SSUWLC16!
